Make a list of the basic emotions on page 79. Beside each emotion, describe how a person might express that particular emotion in a healthy way.

: Sketch a model of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Pyramid (refer to page 70) and fill in the names for each of the 5 levels along with a brief description of what it means.

: In your own words, describe what the following terms mean.

Station 5: Suppression is when a person will hold back or restrain their feelings. Many people do this because they don’t want others to see when they are going through certain emotions. List why else a person might do this and why suppressing these emotions/feelings could become harmful.

Station 6Guilt is an emotion that occurs from acting against one’s values or from failing to act when action might have brought about a better outcome.
 
Station 7: Defense mechanisms are mental processes that protect individuals from strong or stressful emotions and situations. *Using page 81 in the textbook, list and explain 4 common defense mechanisms.
Station 8Identify a positive role model in your life. Explain the qualities and characteristics that make her or him a positive role model.

In the "obsessed" clip the students will view two unique individuals (both suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder).  Behavior therapy/management is utilized in the clip to demonstrate how these disorders can be controlled and potentially overcome.  Both individuals are having obsessions about behaviors that would otherwise be viewed as healthy habits (handwashing and excessive exercise).

-Upon completion of the video clip, use the Chapter 4 GR worksheet(attached below) to answer the questions about stress and anxiety.

Many Health students are doing well.  However, some have not turned in their work.  I expect work to be submitted on time.  However, I do accept work one class period late, for an academic penalty.  As a one-time-only opportunity, any student who has not yet turned in the work shown below may do so,  but it MUST be submitted no later than October 31.  The window closes on October 31--this means the homework is no longer available for credit after Thursday, October 31.  

Please do not ask for an extension; this work is already late-this is a one-time concession.  Use the opportunity!

1. Explain how Allison’s current abuse of inhalants is affecting her everyday life?

2. If you were Allison’s sister (older or younger), what would you do to try to help her?
3. Why do you think that Allison’s younger sister (who was also molested and had the same issues during childhood) does not have the same problems as Allison? She doesn’t have a substance abuse problem and she was able to move on with her life.
4. Who do you think had the largest influence on Allison’s addiction to inhalants? (College boyfriend, parents separation, childhood molestation…..)
5. Define the term “Intervention” based on what you saw from the episode.
