Welcome to Seymour High School

August 2017

Welcome to another school year!!

We have been busy over the summer.  Custodial and maintenance crews have been putting the final touches to our summer chore list.  Our teachers are ready to get back at what they do best—teach.   The faculty is continuing to develop curriculum as we are a 1:1 school as all students will be given chrome books to use.  I hope that parents have taken advantage of on line registration.  Keeping parent and guardian phone numbers and addresses current is very important to us.

This reminder that NO electronic devices, cell phones or head phones are allowed to be used on campus during class time or passing periods.  They are allowed during lunch. In addition, students who are dropped off before school and picked up after school should follow the new procedure mailed home this summer.  A link to these instructions may be found on this web page.

The bus lobby, Second Street, Community Drive, and teacher parking lots are not drop off points.

As we hit the ground running, we would like students and parents to keep the following August dates in mind:

August 3                     Freshman Orientation                                  8:30-10:00

August 3                     Freshman Chrome book distribution             10:00

August 7                     Teacher first day

August 9                     Student first day

August 22/23             Underclassmen yearbook pictures

August 25                   Senior picture retakes

Log in information concerning the End of Course Assessment results for the Algebra I and English 10 tests that were taken last May was mailed home to parents a few weeks ago.  The importance of these and every standardized test that is given to students cannot be overemphasized.  Last year we changed our teaching schedule to allow for more remediation and guided assistance during study halls.  Teachers will be doing a majority of the monitoring and implementation of this learning opportunity for students.

Parents are encouraged to remain an active participant in their students’ academic world.  The daily announcements are posted on this web site.  The student handbook is also available for viewing.  This information helps explain many rules and regulations that we employ to maintain optimal student academic success and student safety.  Parents, please remind students to use their time wisely during Power Hour to get extra help from teachers; make up homework, test, and quizzes; and other productive activities.

The Class of 2017 that graduated in June left some big shoes to fill in terms of the leadership in the school.  We believe that the Class of 2018 will be a positive influence on all of the underclassmen and will work hard to create a lasting legacy for themselves.

We are looking forward to a great year.

We welcome Officer Williams back for another year as Seymour High School's School Resource Officer.
Seymour Community School Corporation is committed to the safety of our students and staff.  Our continued partnership with Seymour Police Department allows for the presence of 3 School Resource Officers at our school sites. School Resource Officers are at all school sites at various times during the school day and school events.  The School Resource Officers provide campus security and educational opportunities for our students and staff.
